I never did get liveview to work and it also didn't recognize my camera in LR. I had my first shoot with the A7RIV and Smartshooter last week.

Shooting tethered (in my newbie opinion) using a copy stand, makes more sense to be able to control manual focusing in the software rather than having to jump up and down to adjust the camera for each picture, but maybe I’m missing something being new to this. On the other hand, using Sony software Imaging Edge Desktop (including Remote and Viewer), I can use Live View and manual focus on the PC screen in the software.

Live View Manual Focus movement is not supported.” (under the Section Supported Cameras, Sony).Ĭorrect me if I’m wrong as I’m new to tethering, just figuring out how to do it… the Live View option is the only way to see on the PC screen, a view of what the camera is taking a picture of, correct? I may be missing or not understanding this correctly, but it appears using Smart Shooter 4, I would have to look at the actual camera LCD screen and manually twist the focus ring to view the image and perform manual focus? Today, I noticed in Smart Shooter 4 online documentation, it says “Live View Zoom Region is not supported. Following is what I wrote to the software company: I'm following up to note for anyone else's benefit that Smart Shooter 4 tethering software does not appear (as best as I'm able to find out) to work well for use with a copy stand using any/all Sony cameras.

I saw it listed in Device Manager, then found I had a remnant Sony Remote Viewer app running, uninstalled that and the Sony remote viewer (or control) USB device was gone and TetherTools software worked, finding the camera. Live View in the software on the PC monitor appears to be working.ĭidn't have to manually remove a Sony remote camera usb device driver. Got TetherTools Smart Shooter 4 to work with Sony A7R iv by uninstalling all Sony Imaging Desktop and viewer software (on Windows 10) and rebooting. Regarding whether Live View works or not, it was interesting that a few days ago their website compatibility chart had an asterik for the A7R iv noting Live View did not work, but currently that is gone and the chart shows checkmark for it working. OK, thanks for the info, will touch base with TetherTools. Not just Smart Shooter but also Capture One will not work with the Sony software installed. They should be able to help you with that.

I didn't keep the video on the fix but it has to do with replacing the Sony USB driver with the original one. I do not need live view in my application, simply need to view the image larger than on the back of the camera. Live view did not work last week but it was something they were working on and perhaps they have fixed that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean that the PC monitor will not see the actual image 'as is' prior to taking the photo? I'm using a copy stand with lights and assume Live View would be what should work, otherwise why pay $70 for the software? So, you noted there is a fix to have Tethertools software detect the Sony A7R iv. Interesting, thanks for the info! Yes, I had previously installed Sony Imaging software. As of last week live view did not work on an A7r4 After you do that of course the Sony tethering software will no longer work. If you ask ( and explain the issue) they have a short video that shows you how to fix this. You need to replace the driver that Sony installs with the original one. I spent over a week going over this with their techs. If you have installed the Sony tethering software at any point Smart Shooter will not work as Sony replaces the driver it needs to function.

The install guide by tether tools for Smart Shooter 4 doesn't list apply Sony camera menu settings so far as I've looked. Yes, PC Remote On and PC Remote Cnct Method set to USB.

Any ideas?ĭo you have "PC Remote" set to "on" in camera settings? The software tech info says the Sony A7R iv works with the software including Live View. Smart Shooter 4 can't detect or find the camera. Camera is cabled with USB-C out of camera to USB-A into the computer. Can't get TetherTools Smart Shooter 4 to recognize the camera A7R iv.
